Finite Element Analysis
The Church of Saviour-Transfiguration
was raised in the first half of the 12th century and it is a monument of the “zero” category of the historical and cultural heritage of Belarus.
This old house of worship is distinctly different from other buildings by its salient Individuality, specific features of its appropriation, the application conditions since its inception, specificities of building materials, and the applied construction solutions.
The complex survey in the building condition requires highly trained professionals (structural designers, architects, archaeologists, geologic engineers, surveyors, mixologists, etc) that are skilled enough to investigate the object within their professional background.
The joint interpretation of the results of the work by different specialists to obtain an objective picture of the state of the Church building will allow to development of the necessary measures for the restoration and preservation of the building.
On account of the complexity of the geometric shapes of the object, the need to obtain real geometric data and material for mapping cracks spatial laser 3D-scanning of the object has been performed.
The obtained results of scanning are further transferred for the performance of graphic materials - drawing up of maps of cracks. The condition (verticality deviations) of the supporting pillars of the Church building has been assessed based on the scanning materials.
Finite Element Analysis
For the analysis of deformations and forces in load-bearing structures of the building of the Transfiguration Church of the Saviour-Euphrosyne female Orthodox monastery in Polotsk, a three-dimensional computational model with significant defects was developed. The main purpose of the performed spatial calculations is to compare the deformations and stresses in structures with the actual values and to Refine the calculation models if needed.
The created adequate model made it possible to assess objectively the technical condition, and the actual bearing capacity of building structures and foundations; to identify the causes of deformation, damage, and signs of unsatisfactory operation of the structure.
Electronic Monitoring
During the electronic monitoring,
the stress-strain behavior of the Church of Saviour-Transfiguration building structures is determined using
SciBIM SVW, the appearance, and rise
of the groundwater level in the crypt and its fixation in quantitative terms using SciBim PZVW. The angles of inclination of the walls and parapets of the building were determined with the help of SciBim BIV. The width of the crack opening at characteristic points was determined using SciBim CMVW.
Survey of changes in the technical condition of bearing structures of the Church of Saviour-Transfiguration with monitoring system SciBIM allowed to reveal the designs that do not correspond to the elastic stage and the change in the stress-strain state which are not amenable to modeling. In the research of stress-strain behavior were revealed the causes of certain defects and damage modeling on the basis of obtained research data and calculations taking into account the recommendations on strengthening the structures of the Church confirmed the correctness of decisions on reconstruction with the restoration of Spaso-Preobrazhensky Church.
